Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India (CPI), the second largest partner in the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) has decided to initiate disciplinary action against party national executive member K E Ismail for violating the party line.
The CPI has decided to withdraw him as the party's representative in the LDF and also would recommend to the national executive to take further action against Ismail.
Apart from Ismail, party state secretary Kanam Rajendran, E Chandrasekharan and Panniyan Raveendran are the other CPI representatives in the LDF.
Ismail had irked the CPI state leadership reportedly by stating that the party ministers' absence from the cabinet meet was not discussed in the party. He later clarified his remarks saying it was taken out of context by the TV channel which reported it, but again made jibes against CPI assistant secretary Prakash Babu.
“No one should teach me party discipline,” Ismail told a public meeting at Vembayam in Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the party's regional conferences.
This forced the CPI leadership to initiate disciplinary action against the CPI national executive member.
Since Ismail is a national executive member of the party, the state executive cannot take action against him but only recommend action to the higher body.
Moreover, since the party's regional conferences are being held, action can only be recommended at this juncture.
Onmanorama had reported on Tuesday that the CPI was mulling disciplinary action against the CPI veteran.
