Kanhangad: A panchayat senior clerk has been suspended for sharing a troll against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Facebook. The meme had a picture showing the Communist leader wearing long boots and gloves to avoid getting muddied as he plants paddy saplings in a field.

The disciplinary action against P Jayarajan of East Eleri panchayat, a Congress union leader, comes a year after he shared the troll posted by somebody else in December 2016.

The suspension order also points out that Jayarajan had trolled finance minister Thomas Isaac during the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 in November 2016.

Jayarajan was working as performance auditor at the office of the deputy director of panchayats in Kasaragod when he shared the post. He was not even asked to explain his action, despite the lapse of an year. The suspension order was just handed over on Friday.

The order says Jayarajan deliberately tried to malign the chief minister and the finance minister through social media. The panchayat director took the action, based on the recommendation of the grievance redressal cell of the chief minister.

'Political enmity'

At the same time, Jayarajan says the action was prompted by political enmity, and that it was the Vellora local CPM committee which filed a complaint against him. He was president of the Kasaragod unit of the Congress-aligned Kerala Panchayat Organization.
