Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Jacob Thomas has come out with his 'Lesson - 2' for the Kerala government. Maintaining a sarcastic tenor as in his 'Lesson -1', which had ridiculed the Ockhi relief package statistics, the latest lesson criticizes the spending on advertisement for the government’s anniversary, putting up flexes and other publicity programs.

In a social media post, the DGP, presently under suspension, says the government would spend Rs 3 crore for anniversary ads, Rs 2 crore for putting up flexes and Rs 3 crore for reality shows to gauge public opinion. Other entries in the lesson titled 'Anticipatory accounts' are: weather forecast fund – accounted; those who arrived during Christmas – lucky souls; and missing persons – only the sea knows.

In his first lesson, the IPS officer had said that in place of the Rs 700 crore required, the state government had sought Rs 7,000 crore from the Center. He said there were 100 deaths following Ockhi, for which Rs 100 crore had to be set apart as aid. The number of injured also came to 100 and they needed Rs 50 crore. Around 250 persons, still counting, were missing, for whom another Rs 250 crore was required. Those who lost boats and nets numbered 100, for whom Rs 200 crore had to be given. For setting up advanced warning systems, Rs 50 crore needs to be spent. Adding miscellaneous expenses of Rs 50 crore, the total amount required came to Rs 700 crore, he said. Thomas had also advised the government to seek a new Maths teacher.

Finance minister Thomas Isaac had replied to the DGP’s post on the same day. In his social media post, the minister asked the top cop to do proper homework. The DGP was advised not to confine his studies to 'Lesson – 1'.

Fisheries minister Mercykutty Amma had also termed the allegations raised by Thomas baseless.

With the suspended police officer in no mood to relent and publishing his next lesson, the government is likely to lose its sleep.
