The Victorian Supreme Court has begun final hearings in the Sam Abraham murder case. A UAE Exchange employee, Sam Abraham, 34, from Punalur was found dead at his Epping house in England on October 13, 2015.
After convincing family members and relatives that Sam died due to a heart attack, his wife Sofia brought Sam’s mortal remains to Kerala and after conducting the funeral went back to Melbourne along with their son.
She, along with her lover Arun Kamalasanan, was arrested 10 months later on August 12, 2016. The prosecutor, submitted before the 14-member jury, details of the joint account opened by Sofia and Arun in Melbourne Commonwealth Bank in January 2014 and money sent to Kerala by Sofia using Arun's address, among others.
It is alleged that Sofia killed Sam by giving him orange juice spiked with cyanide. The toxicology report found excessive presence of cyanide in Sam's blood and liver.
Aji Parameshwaran, who was staying with Arun, too was presented in the court. In his statement, Aji said that he had seen Arun and Sofia together in Arun's house.
The evidence submitted in the court also included CCTV footage of Arun and Sofia traveling together and details of Arun's mobile number which was regularly used by Sofia.
Details of transferring Sam's car registration in Arun's name, the dairies of both Sofia and Arun and Arun visiting the house of Sam on the fateful day too were presented before the jury.
