Fuel outlets in Kerala to remain closed

Kannur: A few petrol pumps will remain closed in Kerala, except in Kannur and Malappuram, from 6 am to 1 pm on Monday to protest against instances of robbery. This comes in wake of a recent theft at a fuel outlet in Kottayam.

The dealers urged the government to take necessary steps to ensure safety of petrol pumps in the State and to prevent attacks on workers of fuel outlets.

However, the dealers in Kannur and Malappuram are staying away from the strike in view of the upcoming general strike on April 2.

K V Ramachandran, the general secretary of Kannur district petroleum dealers association, said that halting petrol supply could adversely affect the mobility of students especially since examinations were going on in the state.

The protest was called by All-Kerala Federation of Petroleum Dealers Association. Kerala State Petroleum Traders' Association is staying away from the protest.
