Kottayam: Sameera has danced her way into the IAS, her precious dream, with a glorious 28th rank. Fond of dancing as a kid of three, she had developed a longing to be an Indian Administrative Service officer as she grew up. Now at 30, as she celebrates the big win in All-India Civil Service exam,
Sameera says she never expected such a high rank. “I was sure I would be in the first 100, but never expected this much. Am happy,” she says. “I wouldn't have been disappointed even if it was a bit lower.” She asserts she was so determined to clinch the IAS that she would never have bowed out if she had lost.
“Malayalam was my optional,” Sameera recalls. “May be I got most marks in that.”
At the civil service interview, she was asked if she had made her debut as a dancer. “I will never forget that question,” says Sameera. “The question about traditional ways of astronomical observation was the toughest.”
An IIT graduate and later a research assistant in Germany, Sameera was determined to enter the IAS, for which she came back to India and joined the Civil Service Academy in Palai in 2015. Within three years, she has won it.
Sameera was born to late Dr Salim George and Dr Ayesha of Kanjikuzhi Palliparambil house. After schooling in both Mount Carmel and Girideepam at Kottayam, she joined Stella Maris in Chennai and went on to qualify for IIT, Dhanbad. Graduating from there, she went on to do research in Germany for five years.
With the IAS dream, Sameera flew back from Germany and entered the academy in Palai in 2015. She recalls the help rendered by Jeromis George, a civil service officer from the 2014 batch.
