Crispin (R) is now under suspension in connection with the custodial death of Sreejith (L). Aluva: North Paravur CI Crispin Sam has been arrested in connection with the custodial death of Sreejith at Varapuzha. He is the fifth accused in the case and has been charged with unlawful detention, destroying and doctoring of evidence.
The custodial torture took place at Varapuzha police station when Crispin was the in-charge. However, Crispin has not been charged with the sections dealing with murder. This was after it became evident that he was not among the officers who allegedly tortured Sreejith.
Crispin has been charged with bailable offences. But the investigating team has decided not to grant him bail. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
The arrest follows an interrogation by a special team under the IG at the Aluva police club.
When the SI and other police officers were subjecting Sreejith to inhuman torture, Crispin took no notice. He reportedly did not even a glance at them. Crispin has been arrested for this negligence of his supervisory duty. He also signed documents prepared by other officers which said that Sreejith, who had been taken into custody at night, was arrested on the next day morning. The probe team has concluded that the CI’s actions provided the subordinate officers an opportunity to unlawfully detain Sreejith and the other youths.
Crispin is now under suspension in connection with the custodial death of Sreejith.
