An MCI inspection team that visited the medical college ahead of granting recognition to seats there had found irregularities related to these nine doctors. Kottayam: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to bar seven doctors working at the Kannur Medical College in Anjarakandy, who misrepresented facts during an inspection for recognition of the college. Their names will be removed from the Indian Medical Register.
The doctors will not be allowed to use their title or attend to patients and practise their profession for an year.
The doctors under ban are: V K Valsalan, Sebastian Zacharias, Narayana Prasad, K M Asokan, C K Rajamma, P. Sreedevi and P. Muhammad Ibrahim.

The college, which had to ensure a minimum faculty strength for recognition, presented documents to show that these doctors have been working there since 2009.
The MCI panelists, however, developed suspicion and proceeded with inquiries led by the post-graduate committee chairman. The probe found that details in the documents and those in the college records were contradictory. The MCI Ethics Committee then decided to disqualify the doctors.
The decision has to be enforced by the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council that provides registration to doctors in Kerala. The college also could invite action.
The MCI team is also probing similar cases at some other medical colleges in the state.
