Kozhikode: Transport minister AK Saseendran on Tuesday requested the ambulance drivers to 'stay together with the government', when their services are most needed in the Nipah-affected regions, according to a statement from the information and public relations department. He was speaking at Kozhikode collectorate conference hall in a meeting of the ambulance drivers, called by district collector UV Jose.

“More ambulance drivers should volunteer for the service as the district is in dire need of them in the Nipah-stricken areas. The number of ambulances also need to be increased,” the minister said.

H1N1 district nodal officer Dr CJ michael led special sessions on safety measures to be observed by the ambulance drivers during special service. Through videos, he explained how to clean safety equipment like head gear, surgical mask, goggles, gloves, gown etc.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand sanitizer, hand wash and bleaching powder would be made available in the special ambulances that function 24 hours. For more assistance, people can use these helpline numbers- 8281904533, 8156830510, 9188541485.

The district collector promised that salary to the drivers serving now, would be cleared instantly.
