Kochi: In a crucial order, the Kerala High Court on Friday allowed a teenaged boy and girl to live together. The court said it cannot separate the couple – a 19-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy – on the grounds that the boy had not attained the prescribed age for marriage. A division bench of the court quashed a habeaus corpus writ filed by the father of the girl.
The court reportedly said it could not close its eyes to the fact that live-in relationships have become common in society and such partners cannot be separated by the issue of a writ of habeas corpus as they were not minors.
In India, the marriageable age of a woman is 18 while it is 21 for men.
