Even as anti-SilverLine protests are witnessed throughout the state regularly, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has claimed that the majority wants the project to be implemented.

In a video message on Facebook, Vijayan said the LDF government will not back off “just because some people are protesting”.

“A government is duty-bound to implement a project that is essential for the land. Don't think that the state is full of protesters. The majority wants such projects.” Vijayan said.

He reiterated that the LDF government, which holds power in Kerala since 2016 has had to endure similar protests when it tried to implement the GAIL pipeline, national high expansion and the Koodankulam power lines project.

“If a necessary thing is not done when it has to be done, a heavy price will have to be paid.

“Kerala is a small state, where land is at a premium, and population density is high compared to other states. Irrespective of that shouldn't our state be able to develop? Is it acceptable to our people that we fall behind?” Vijayan asked.
