Fire at Kannur vehicle junkyard extinguished; over 500 vehicles gutted

Kannur: A fire broke out at a vehicle junkyard on the Thaliparambu-Srikantapuram road at Vellarampara in Kannur on Thursday. Police use the yard to dump confiscated vehicles.

The fire started around 10 am. Around 500 vehicles have been gutted. Hours after the fire broke out, fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire. However, they are yet to find out what caused the fire.

Though there is a fire station within 2 km of the yard, the fire spread fast before fire tenders could come. Vehicles seized in various cases in Taliparamba, Srikanthapuram and Pazhyangadi police stations are dumped in the yard.
