Leopard

A veterinary doctor climbed down a 30-foot well to rescue a leopard that was trapped inside.

The incident took place at the Gokulnagar area of Guwahati in Assam. The female leopard, which was looking for food, fell in the well on Wednesday.

When people came to know about it they crowded around the well, started taking pictures in their mobiles and the commotion made the wild beast agitated.

Once they knew that a leopard was sighted, forest department officials led by Dr Bijoy Gogoi reached the spot. The wild beast was tranquilized and the doctor himself descended into the well using a ladder, tied the animal with ropes and brought it up using a winch.

It took him two hours to bring the animal out of the dry well. The leopard was taken to the zoo for medical examination, which found no external injuries on the animal.

Last week, a leopard that strayed into Joypur village in Assam killed a 60-year-old woman. In retaliation, a mob hunted and ate the leopard.
