Chennai: Actor-turned-politician SVe Shekher, accused of sharing a derogatory message against female journalists on his Facebook page, got bail here on Wednesday.
A local court granted the bail. Shekher has to appear again next month to get a copy of the charge sheet.

Earlier, the Madras High Court turned down his bail plea. Shekher then approached the Supreme Court which also dismissed his bail petition and directed him to appear before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court here.

A noted comedian and a former legislator who is now with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shekher had forwarded a message derogatory to women journalists on his Facebook originally written by his friend.

Shekher later removed the post and said he had shared the message without reading it.

"I do not endorse the views expressed in it. I come from a family that respects women and the women journalists," he said in a statement.

However, he said he was surprised at how people were spreading the screenshot of the deleted message without finding that offensive.
