Malppuram: A controversy has broke out over Robert Bobby George's comment that sprint legend and coach P T Usha has complained to the sports ministry regarding his appointment as the high performance specialist coach.

Bobby, an ex-triple jumper as well as coach and husband of former World Championships bronze medal-winner long jumper Anju Bobby George, was named high performance specialist coach as a recognition of his expertise. The sports ministry decided to appoint Indians as high performance coaches instead of bringing in foreigners at a higher salary. The government has appointed high performance coaches in hockey and badminton too.

Usha has conveyed the displeasure of other coaches, who have trained Asian and national-level medal winners, at Bobby being given a higher salary.

“I don't know whether Usha is raising such an allegation due to her ignorance or jealousy,” Dronacharaya Award-winner Bobby told a leading Malayalam news channel.
