The department issued the warning in the wake of the presence of two cyclones in the South-Eastern Arabian Sea and the Central-Eastern Bay of Bengal.
The national weather agency sounded a yellow alert for seven districts on Monday.
The IMD warned that the low-pressure area formed over the South-West Bay of Bengal along the North-Eastern coast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a ‘well-marked low-pressure area’. This is likely to trigger rains across Kerala.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 303 on Thursday morning, while the PM 10 level was 195 or "moderate".
A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lankan coast on November 9.
The officials have also informed that a low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal by November 9 and it is likely to move towards Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline.
Thunderstorms are also expected to occur at isolated places in the state till Monday.
The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert in 10 districts on Monday. Isolated heavy to very heavy thundershowers and strong winds can occur in these districts.
A yellow alert was sounded in 9 of the fourteen districts on Saturday. They are Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottyam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The minimum temperature in the national capital settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, the weather official said.
