Sreenivasan's murder was in retaliation for the killing of SDPI activist Subair, the police stated. Subair was hacked to death allegedly by RSS workers at Elappully in the district on Friday.
Those in custody are understood to have been involved in the conspiracy to murder Subair.
Sreenivasan, who was hacked to death in Palakkad Town on Saturday morning had been attacked using swords.
The Islamic organisation's state president CP Mohammed Basheer said Subair had earlier approached the local SP after a death threat, but no action was taken.
In the FIR filed, the police has concluded that Subair's murder is indeed a political assassination, a retaliation against the slaying of an RSS activist by SDPI workers in 2021.
The local SDPI unit has alleged that this was retaliation for the murder of 27-year-old RSS worker Sanjith last year.
