Experts caution that an early onset does not always ensure steady or well-distributed rainfall.
The IMD has said the southwest monsoon was expected to hit Kerala within two days, with widespread rain likely across the state over the coming week.
The department also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40–50 km/h) in isolated areas across Kerala on May 23 and 24.
