Kerala began their campaign with a six-wicket win in Elite Group E at the Wankhede Stadium.
The team, which started under Sachin Baby and ended with Jalaj Saxena at the helm, was relegated after a disastrous campaign.
Sachin has been retained in the squad. Kerala need to perform well in their remaining fixtures against Andhra and defending champions Vidarbha to stave off relegation threat.
The odds are stacked against Kerala on a challenging wicket and the hosts will be confident of getting the job done on the third day.
The visitors, who were shot out for 142 in their first innings, ended the penultimate day on 142/1. They still trail Kerala by 241 runs.
