The ongoing row between the SFI and the Governor in the state has been witnessing dramatic scenes starting with the student outfit's activists allegedly attacking Khan's vehicle last week and putting up banners in Calicut University calling him a 'sanghi', while he retaliated by calling them 'bullies', 'criminals' and 'goondas'.
The strength of police personnel deployed to ensure the Governor's safety went from 300 to 1,000 during his three-day stay at the guest house of Calicut University.
The Guv was referring to the Nov 30 judgment of the SC quashing the reappointment of Prof Gopinath Ravindran as VC of Kannur University on grounds of 'unwarranted political interference from state govt'.
Asokan collapsed at LIC corner at 12.35 pm and the Governor reached SM Street at 12.40 pm. He was taken to the General Hospital, where Asokan was pronounced dead at 12.55 pm.
Calling the SFI activists criminals, Khan said the organisation was being run by a gang of goons, who have been released under police protection by the chief minister.
While addressing the media at Calicut University, he said that he already forwarded a letter to DGP Sheikh Darvesh Saheb asking to withdraw the police security.
A banner outside the Government Sanskrit College in the state capital said Khan as Chancellor should be working for the universities and not the Sangh Parivar.
Justifying the SFI, minister for industries and law P Rajeeve argued that the banners only criticised Arif Mohammed Khan's act as a chancellor.
SFI has declared it will raise black banners throughout the university campus and has dared the police to touch them.
Kerala's Tourism Minister was responding to Governor Khan's 'bloody history of Kannur' remark.
