Bajaj Dominar 400: Resolved to dominate Bajaj Dominar 400

“Engineered to dominate, Dominar 400 is a modern masterpiece. The big and muscular Dominar 400 is for those who are willing to prowl on the dark lonely streets as others burrow in the safety of their beds. Only the big boys play at night.” The seriously seductive product description on the official website of Bajaj Dominar 400 goes thus!

Going by the enticing choice of words, one thing is certain: Dominar 400, the most powerful bike in the Bajaj line-up, is determined to dominate.

The vehicle blends the rich heritage of KTM models and Bajaj’s reputation as a trusted motorcycle manufacturer.

The KTM connection

It was Bajaj which immensely benefited from its collaboration with the KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG as the former could procure the latest in technology cheaply. Dominar 400 belongs to the new generation bikes from the Bajaj stable that are powered by the tweaked KTM engines. The alliance was mutually beneficial to KTM as well as the Austrian company could make use of Bajaj’s vast experience in the local market.

Cruiser and Sports Tourer

Dominar 400 epitomizes the heart and soul of a sports tourer. It offers the comfortability of a cruiser and the performance of a sports bike. The influence of Pulsar NS 200 and Ducati’s top-end model Diavel can be seen in the distinctive design principles of the Dominar 400, which belongs to the naked-bike class. The stylish panels and other bold features add to the bike’s youthful looks and aggressive demeanor.

Premium features

The all-new Dominar 400 comes loaded with premium features. The long list includes a full LED headlamp with four different beam lamp settings. Eye-catching alloy wheels, thick telescopic forks, 13-liter tank, sporty tail panel, shorter silencer, metal stamped swing-arm, unique dual spring mono suspension, LED strip tail-light, muscular pin tyre etc., lend flair to the Dominar 400.

The flat and wide handle bar with comfy palm grips would definitely give the rider a lot of comfort. The switchgear is illuminated like in the Pulsar models.

User-friendly

The KTM Duke-inspired rear-view mirrors, neatly laid out tachometer, speedometer, odometer, trip meter, clock, fuel gauge, and shift indicators on the full digital instrument cluster are some of the top-notch features. The sub-console will warn you if the side stand is extended. There are also warning lights connected to the ABS, battery, and engine temperature. The ‘Bajaj’ logo can also be found on this sub-console. The design and the placement of the logo follows the same pattern of Bajaj V Models in which the company emblem is etched on the engine cover.

Tweaked engine

The Dominar 400 comes with the same engines found in the KTM 390 RC models, but with slight variations. The triple-spark, DTS-i, four-valve, single-cylinder, 373cc over-square bore engine draws torque of 34.5 BHP at 8000 rpm and 35 Nm of torque at 8500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission. The gear shifting pattern is 1-down and 4-up.

Easy ride

Though the kerb weight is 182 kg, the Dominar 400 can be handled with ease. The rider has to lean lightly into the flat, single-piece handlebar. The footrest and the brake pedals are well-positioned while the cushioned seat is big and comfy.

Top speed

Just wring the throttle and the bike will surge ahead! The Dominar 400 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, while its top speed is 148 km/h. There is no vibration even at higher revs. It is equipped with the latest slipper clutch mechanism which helps with quick shifting and safe downshifts without allowing the rear wheel to lock up.

The Dominar 400 can be maneuvered comfortably through any surface and has really good cornering and straight-line dynamics. The huge frame is claimed to provide lowest possible center of gravity along with torsional rigidity. The strong metal swing too adds to the bike’s superior control.

It rides on 150/60-17 Radial rear tyre. The 320 mm disc upfront and 230 mm disc at the rear are highly responsive and lock up very easily.
