Ex-teacher charred to death inside car, suicide suspected The police said the cause of Nanu's death could be ascertained only after the post-mortem report was out.

Kozhikode: A retired teacher was found dead inside his burnt car in Ambalakkulangara, near Kakkattil, in Kozhikode district early on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as K Nanu, from Koyyal, near here.

The circle inspector (CI) of police, Kuttiyadi, Sunil Kumar, who is investigating, said the preliminary probe indicated a suicide.

The retired teacher told his family before leaving his house around 3.30 am that he was going to book a doctor's consultation for his son.

The officer told Onmanorama that the fire spread from petrol kept inside his car. “He was seen asking a few residents on the availability of petrol to be kept on reserve. Nanu and his wife had been using two-wheelers and generally do not keep petrol in reserve. The petrol tank of the car is not affected and the fire is obviously spread from inside,” the CI said.

The body was almost burnt completely below the knees, the police said. Forensic experts visited the spot and the body was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death was registered. The police said the cause could be ascertained only after the post-mortem report was out.
