Please don't brand ‘Minnaminungu’ as an award movie: Surabhi Lakshmi Surabhi Lakshmi (Manorama file photo)

Surabhi Lakshmi had never been a stranger to Malayalees. A cheerful presence on mini screen, the national award winning actor had won the hearts of Keralites as Pathu through popular satire sitcom M80 Moosa.

The actress, who is currently gearing up for the re-release of her movie Minnaminungu, has a request to her followers: don’t keep away from the movie halls, thinking it’s an “award movie.”

Minnaminungu, the movie which yielded me the national award, is not a typical award movie without elements of entertainment. It is a short and crisp movie, which talks about the bitter realities of life. I request all those who love me to hit the theaters when it's re-released this month, and make the movie a success,” she told in an interview with Onmanorama.

Looking back at her journey from an ordinary TV actor to a national award winning silver-screen celeb, Lakshmi says that it is her habit of dreaming, which took her to the heights. “Many great people, including former Indian president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, have asked children to dream big. I chose to practice it. I used to act and interview myself in front of my mirror right from my childhood. Though a national award for excellence in acting was something beyond my dream, I have enacted the kind of interviews I deliver today, a billion times in front of mirror,” she said.

Interestingly, Lakshmi's national award was celebrated the most in common households of Kerala. Commenting on her popularity, Surabhi thanks the mini screen, which took her to the hearts of family audience. “I started off my acting career with Oru Kadhayile Rajakumari, a serial aired by Mazhavil Manorama. Since then, I had a loving place in the hearts of homemakers and family audience. I love it when people identify me as 'Pathu,' my character in M80 Moosa. Many people rejoiced over my award as they consider me as a member of their family. I wish they extend the same kind of support in my journey forward,” she said.
