Great actors tread the brink of living when they act out a scene. And, there are rare occasions when the line gets too blurred and the act segues with life itself.
On the sets of the Lal Jose film Velipadinte Pusthakam, Mohanlal literally got into the skin of the character and could not come out for a while. He could not come out of a wailing bout. The video is spreading like wild fire.
In the shot, Mohanlal walks in with the 'corpse' of a girl. He then cries aloud with the body laid on his lap. After this, the director calls a 'cut.' The onlookers at the set break into a loud round of applause. But Mohanlal continues to wail loudly for a while. The video shows the crew rushing in to 'console' him and help him on his feet. He is seen walking out of the frame, subsequently.
Mohanlal, seized by the emotion, apparently slips into a trance of uncontrollable sob. Velipadinte Pusthakam is the first film Lal Jose is directing with Mohanlal in the lead. The shooting of the film is in its final stages. Mohanlal is appearing in the film in two different avatars. One of his characters is Professor Michael Idikkula, a college teacher.
Benny P. Nayarambalam has penned the script. Reshma Rajan, who played the lead role in film Angamali Diaries, is the heroine opposite Mohanlal. Salim Kumar, Anoop Menon, Priyanka, among others, essay prominent roles in the movie. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
The video, which was going viral on the Internet, has now been removed at the request of the crew as spreading the scene would be a spoiler to the film's climax.
