Head to Kumbanadu to click selfies with 'Mammootty and Mohanlal' The wax statues were made after the hard toil of Harikumar for five years. Photo: Nikhil Raj

Pathanamthitta: The loyal fans of Malayalam film superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal are thronging the house of artist Valiyaparambil Harikumar at Kumbanadu to see the incredible wax statues of the actors made by him.

The statues look so real that many mistake them to be the actors themselves in flesh and blood. Harikumar has been able to copy the facial and physical features of the two actors with originality. Patches of real hair used on both the statues make it appear real.

Mohanlal’s statue, draped in shirt and pants, stands with folded arms. Meanwhile, Mammootty stands with his hands inside the pant pockets.

Harikumar has used the same brands of shirts, pants and watches which are used by the two actors in real life on the statues too.

Art enthusiasts and the fans of the two superstars are busy clicking selfies with the wax statues.

Harikumar had visited a wax museum in Mumbai a few years back and was attracted to the art instantly. He was inspired to make wax statues all by himself but there was nobody who could train him. However, the determined artist in Harikumar was not ready to back off. He worked hard for about five years and after many experiments and rigorous practice he was able to make wax statues on his own.

Ace sculptor Sunil Kandalloor had helped him in this fete.

High quality wax was bought online from America for moulding. Harikumar, who takes up decoration jobs at houses and shops, saved money to pursue his passion. However, making wax statues is an expensive affair.

Realizing his passion for the art, one of his friends had helped him financially. Harikumar makes wax statues by melting wax in appropriate proportions and then dyeing it. He has also made life-like wax statues of legendary playback singer Yesudas and South Indian actor Prabhas in his 'Bahubali' get-up.

Harikumar says that his mother and wife Geethu have been very supportive. He wishes to open a wax museum where the life-like wax statues of the silver-screen stars will be on display.
