Shan Rahman shares with Onmanorama his experiences, emotions and hopes regarding his superhit song in Omar Lulu's 'Manikya malaraya Poovi..'

With his uncanny talent to compose 'global super hits' one after the other, this young musician has produced two international social media celebrities - Jimikki Kammal fame Sheryl Kadavan and now Priya Varrier ('Manikya Malaraya Poovi).'
Speaking on this, the star composer says that each of his successes were unexpected. Shaan Rahman shares with Onmanorama his experiences, emotions and hopes regarding his superhit song 'Manikya malaraya Poovi..' in Omar Lulu's 'Oru Adaar Love.'
Your composition has been a grand success...
I feel good, better than ever. I was a bit cautious while recomposing this song because I wanted to do justice to its original set. I have no reason to show why Jimikki or Manikya Malaraya went viral. People just go gaga over certain compositions. It might have touched their nostalgia or a dormant memory which is close to their heart. However, I shall cherish Manikya Malaraya as a special composition in my career, very much like I do Jimikki Kammal.
You have produced two international celebrities through your songs...
Yes, fortunately I could lift people to stardom through my two songs. At some point people asked me whether I feel my work sidelined by the stardom of on-screen performers. But I think music has a role to play in the whole business. It was because Jimikki Kammal Sheryl decided to display her dancing skills. It was because of the soothing background music that created a good ambience for Priya's winks. I don't think both of these would have gone viral without the songs. So I am so satisfied and proud of the viral status of both my songs.
Your choose of an old Mappilappaattu for a song in Oru Adaar Love...
Well, actually it wasn't I who selected the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi. The movie's director Omar Lulu came to me and sang the first four lines of the Mappilappaattu in a very casual manner. He asked me to recompose that song in an interesting manner. Though I found the work easy, I was nervous about the response of the older generation, especially Rafeeq Thalassery, its original composer. To my surprise, Rafeeq called me up today and appreciated the work. He told me that the song cannot be composed in any better manner. I regard it an honour. I feel happy and relieved now.
Your major concern while composing 'Manikya Malaraya Poovi...
I was clueless about how Vineeth Sreenivasan would render it. I wanted to make him sing some of my Mappilappattus. His early works, 'Ente Khalbile' of 'Classmates,' 'Kasavinte Thattamittu' of 'Kilichundan Mampazham' and the like had done exceptionally well. Yet, there has been a long gap after he last sang a Mappilappattu. I had faith in his voice.
How is your debut directorial venture going on?
Yes, my 'Love Action Drama' will soon reach the theaters. We are on with its final touches. It was previously decided to be released on this Valentine's Day but was postponed due to technical issues. Now, we have removed the concept of deadline. We will release the movie once all the work gets over.
Your upcoming projects...
One of my songs from the upcoming Roshni Dinaker movie My Story just got released. I sang that song. Another song from Vineeth Sreenivasan's next 'Aravindante Athithikal' will also release soon.
