Ankarajyathe Jimmanmar posterPraveen Narayanan's directorial debut Ankarajyathe Jimmanmar is a comedy-drama about a talented dramatist Prakashan (Rony David Raj) who aspires to become a filmmaker. Prakashan’s friends urge him to try film making and to get in touch with his friend Kichu (Roopesh Peethambaran), who had left the village years ago to earn a name for himself in film industry. Winning the trust of his initially disapproving wife Damayanthi (Vinitha Koshy), he leaves for Kochi city in search of Kichu and his fortunes. There he meets Kichu and his friends Jimman and Roshan. But what Kichu does there and his lifestyle come as a surprise to Prakashan, who has no choice but blend in with the situation for the larger aim. What follows next forms the crux of the movie.
The most impressive factor in the movie is its talented cast. Roopesh Peethambaran who made a strong comeback to the screen with Tovino-starrer Oru Mexican Aparatha plays one of the leads in Ankarajyathe Jimmanmar. Rajeev Pillai plays the role of Jimman, a gym freak. Anu Mohan portrays the role of Roshan who is a flirt. TV serial fame Biju Sopanam pulls the audience with his impeccable comic timing.
All of them offer some reason for laughter, poking fun at each other. State award winner Sudev Nair, who dons the role of William Mark II, a business magnet, has impressed with his powerful performance. The female characters played by Marina Michael and Vinitha Koshy have done justice to their roles despite less screen presence. However, the efforts didn’t help, for the story and the treatment in itself weren’t enough to produce a praiseworthy product.
Noted music composer Girish Narayanan has brought up some lovable tracks that would soothe the ears, especially the song 'Nenjin Ninave'. The much celebrated teenage Malayali singer Vaishanav Girish, who is known for his performances in various music reality shows, makes his debut in Mollywood as a playback singer through the film.
The movie is engaging when the characters go about their venture in witty ways but overall a weak screenplay has badly affected the whole film. It offers nothing refreshing and there are no gripping scenes to keep the audience entertained.
