IFFK showcases the ‘Life of Artists’ Van Gogh and Camille Claudel

The 21st edition of IFFK will showcase the life of some of the great artists ever lived in the world. Talking about artists, who can forget the name synonymous to painting, Vincent van Gogh. This year’s IFFK will have four films that will feature four great artists in the world.

Van Gogh directed by Maurice Pialat, Modigliani of Montparnasse, Camille Claudel, and Fifi howls from happiness are the four movies featured under ‘Life of Artists’ package.

Van Gogh tells the story of the great Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh starting from his young life and how he grew up to becoming a painter and later to his suicidal days. He left behind not only artistic works but also people who recognized his human legacy.

Camille Claudel is all about the troubled life of French sculptor Camille Claudel and her stormy relationship with legendary sculptor Auguste Rodin. The development of their intense romantic bond also coincides with the rise of Claudel’s career, when both artists answer one another with their creations. But things are not the same always. The tormented relationship of Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin clearly raises the question whether love can survive professional rivalry.

Modigliani of Montparnasse is about Amedeo Modigliani, an artistic phenomenon with a distinctive style though he never achieved proper recognition or financial success during his lifetime. This 1958 French-Italian drama film chronicles the last year of the life of Amedeo Modigliani who worked and died in abject poverty in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris.

Fifi howls from happiness is a film on Bahman Mohassess, a renowned Iranian painter during the time of the Shah, trained in Italy, but he created sculptures and paintings in his homeland. But audiences often took offense on his mostly naked bronze figures and his work was regularly censored. The movie was premiered at the 2013 Berlin and Telluride Film Festival.
