IFFK to open with Ziad Doueiri's 'The Insult' The lead actor of the film, Kamel El Basha, had won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at Venice Film Festival.

Thiruvananthapuram: The 22nd edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will open with the French-Lebanese drama The Insult (L’insulte Ziad) directed by Ziad Doueiri.

The Insult is a courtroom drama that explores questions of guilt, justice, and honor in Lebanon.

In the film, an insult blown out of proportions finds Toni, a Lebanese Christian, and Yasser, a Palestinian refugee, in court. From secret wounds to traumatic revelations, the media circus around the case puts the Lebanon through a social melee, forcing Toni and Yasser to reconsider their choices in life.

The lead actor of the film, Kamel El Basha, had won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at Venice Film Festival. The film was also selected as the Lebanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

This year's festival will focus on identity and space and will have 190 films from 65 countries. Films that address refugee crisis are featured in the section Uprooted: Films on Identity and Space.

'Uprooted: Films on Identity and Space' section features six fiction films which depict the common problem of migration from different vantage points. The films are by new directors who have made great impression at international film festivals. Although the films deal with the common theme of alienation and identity crisis, they are presented from very different viewpoints and styles – highlighting the different aspects of the common problem.
