As the nation bid adieu to India's former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sanjay Vijayakumar recollects a few fond moments with the 'missile man' :

It was during my third year in college that a few of us were invited to meet the then President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

Dr Kalam was very keen to know how we were becoming job creators by setting up a Startup while we were in college. There were not many student startups in India in those days. This was in the year 2007.

During the 45 minute meeting with Dr Kalam, he had shared with us his vision on how the youth would go on to change India into a developed nation. He also said that we should try to set up an ecosystem and knowledge platform for student entrepreneurship in our country. That way, we would be able to change the mindset of the youth and enable them to become job creators.

It took us five years, since that day, to get to a stage where we could make that vision a reality. Soon, the Startup Village was inaugurated.

On behalf of the startup community, we pay our homage to an inspiring personality who continues to live in our hearts and be an inspiration for youth across the nation.
