The Internet was abuzz with hundreds of tippler's after Old Monk founder Kapil Mohan died on January 6. Many recollected the happy moments of Old Monk camaraderie and the cyber world was awash with encomiums of the iconic rum and profuse thanks for its proponent.
'Let's take a minute, boys' was the message being circulated on social media to mourn the death of the Padma Shree award winner who died a teetotaler at the age of 88.
Women who have been faithful to the brand and enjoyed as many memorable moments with 'Old Monk' as the men would have, however, felt left out. The Old Monk brand has always been associated as a boys brand in popular culture and women felt 'they would never be considered part of it,' though some tried to launch an alternative campaign saying 'Let's take a minute, girls.'
Kapil Mohan, former chairman and managing director of Mohan Meakin Ltd, is the founder of the 'Old Monk' brand with its distinctive vanilla flavor. Under Mohan's leadership Mohan Meakin developed three distilleries, two breweries and franchises all over India.
Allaying apprehensions, the company said it would not stop production of the rum.
