64 to 84 kg while expecting! Don't worry ladies, know what this young mom did

Giving birth often brings about a welcome transformation to the mother, though adding on weight before and after child birth is not often appreciated. Despite their best efforts, women find that the overall flab refuses to melt. While some hit the gym, work out and go on yoga, these efforts seldom yield immediate results. However, here is an exception. Rincy, who belongs to Thrissur, has quite a few self-help tips which she had tried out to fix her unwanted fat. And it worked.

No gym, no special diet, says Rincy. Two deliveries and three babies later, Rincy shed 22 kg in one-and-a-half years.

Here’s a peek into Rincy’s own slimming tricks.

From 64 kg to 84 kg was a big leap for the lady while she was close to having her first baby. The extra eating did it, she adds. But she remained unfazed and decided to try out her remedies to knock off those extra kilos. A few adjustments that worked out for her are these:

» No heavy stuff at night. Dinner comprised a sandwich or two stuffed with vegetables.

» Light crunches to tuck the tummy in.

The flab started thawing, she said, as she continued the above steps. Luckily, her bank job saw to it that she was up and about always.

Then came the second pregnancy, with a surprise package – twins! As she was advised complete rest Rincy had to give up her job.

Binge eating and overeating ensured that the kilos were back and Rincy stood at 85 kg just before the babies came. Post delivery, her special diet was back in place. As she had to feed two babies, she thought it wiser to eat healthy food instead of going into a self-denial mode.

Rincy's plan of action that you may try included:

» Traditional Kerala fare for breakfast. She had puttu, idli or dosa in limited measure.

» Small rice portions for lunch

» More side dishes

» Lots of spinach (palak/cheera) and green gram dishes

» Oil in limited quantities

» Meat (chicken) once a week

» Plenty of eggs (whites)

» The in-betweens were tea and biscuits or rusk and tea. If at all bread was to be had, it was wheat.

» A fruit a few minutes before dinner. Often, Rincy had banana or grapes that weren’t too ripe.

The best part of the diet deal was the cheat day when Rincy would go wild on her food besties, shawarma being her favourite. She, however, never forgot to have plenty of water. It was eight litres of water a day, measured for accuracy.

One-and-a-half months into her C-section deliveries, Rincy sought medical advice and used a belt to tuck her tummy in. The belt was off only at bedtime. This kept the tummy from spilling over.

A lot of calories got burned by way of breast-feeding two babies. The twins did the rest, that is, kept her on her toes.

The park was another factor which hastened the weight loss. You can play with the kids, run around with them and get your exercise, says Rincy. These outdoor activities come with the double benefit of playing with your kids, being with them and sweating off some fat every day.

When free, Rincy used to dance to her favorite tunes. Dance was always a passion, and this helped her to de-stress without having to sweat it out on laborious workouts.

Rincy’s twins are 18 months old now and their mom's weight has gone down from 80 kg to a cool 58 kg, beating even her college-day weight of 60 kg.

Not one to fritter away her time, Rincy has got her YouTube channel “You Are Beautiful”, running where she shares her thoughts and provides tips on health, makeup and grooming.

To all those new moms who keep wailing about weight gain, Rincy has this to say: Feed your baby well, play with him/her, give up wheat and rice, go low on the portions, restrict oil use and eat lots of veggies. Within days you can see the fat slipping off you!
