Thiruvananthapuram: Driving licenses of over 1.5 lakh traffic rule violators who caused accidents will be suspended in Kerala with effect from Saturday. These are people who were booked for offenses since October 2016.
The cases were charged by the Motor Vehicles Department as well as state police. The decision was taken by a meeting of officials from various departments, chaired by transport secretary K.R. Jyotilal. Motor Vehicles Department has suspended over 3,000 licenses so far, following a directive from a panel appointed by the Supreme Court. Friday's meeting of officials decided to suspend licenses of all those involved in cases.
If the accident has claimed lives, the suspension will be for a year. Drunken driving invites a six-month suspension and offenses like over speeding will be punished with a three-month ban.
