Kottayam: Veteran journalist Thomas Jacob, who made a lasting impact on print journalism in Kerala, retired as the editorial director of Malayala Manorama on Friday. He bid adieu to Manorama after 56 years of service.
Thomas Jacob, who joined Manorama as an aspiring cartoonist, went on to don top editorial positions in Kerala's biggest media house.
At 26, he became the youngest news editor in India. He also served as chairman, Kerala Press Academy.
He has won many awards, including the state government’s Swadeshabhimani-Kesari Award. While presenting the award to Thomas Jacob earlier this year, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said Malayala Manorama could achieve greater acceptance even among those who were averse to the daily's political leanings with Thomas Jacob as editorial director.
He also co-authored a book 'Nattuvishesham' with journalist T. Venugopal.
He was accorded a warm farewell at the Manorama headquarters in Kottayam Friday. The farewell function was presided over by Malayala Manorama chief editor Mammen Mathew.
