14 political killings in Kerala under LDF rule: CM Pinarayi

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the Kerala Assembly that 14 political murders were reported from the state after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government assumed office in May 2016. Out of this, 13 cases were registered and charge sheets were filed in seven cases so far. Investigation is progressing in six cases while, the accused are still at large in two cases, the chief minister said.

As many as 218 cases related to violence involving RSS activists were registered so far. The police registered two cases in connection with 'quotation gangs' and 44 cases against goonda gangs, as per the statistics tabled by the chief minister in the Assembly.

Goonda rivalries claimed six lives while there are no deaths reported since May last year in the attacks by 'quotation' gangs. The police arrested 198 persons in goonda cases where as 22 were put behind bars in 'quotation' cases.

As many as 42 persons with suspected links with terrorist outfits went missing from the state. However, there is no confirmation on the death of any among them.

The chief minister also informed the House that no complaint was pending against Vinayakan, the Dalit youth from Pavaratti in Thrissur whose death kicked off a controversy recently. Vinayakan committed suicide after the police allegedly beaten up and harassed him in custody last month.
