Thiruvananthapuram: Prime minister Narendra Modi wants Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's support; not for electoral gains but to fulfill his dream project of making a clean India. PM Modi has written to Mohanlal seeking his support to promote the central government's 'Swachhata Hi Seva' (Cleanliness is service) movement which was kicked off by president Ram Nath Kovind in Uttar Pradesh.
The fortnight-long campaign highlights PM Modi's flagship cleanliness initiative 'Swachh Bharat Mission.' In the letter dated September 9, Modi cites the prominence given to cleanliness by Mahatma Gandhi.
"Cinema is one of the most effective medium to bring about change on a large scale. As a much-adored film personality, you have the power to impact people's lives positively. Your participation in the Swachhata mission would help connect millions to the noble initiative," the prim minister says in the letter.
Modi also asks Mohanlal to share his experience with him on the Narendra Modi mobile app.
PM Modi has also appealed to all ministers to do their part in the cleanliness drive to take India to the highest standards of cleanliness by 2019.
