Chengannur: A controversy erupted in the Alappuzha district after DYFI flags were spotted atop the Mahavishnu Temple in Puliyoor. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the ruling CPM, said that it was their way to protest as the RSS flags hoisted during the Sree Krishna Jayanti celebrations on September 12 were yet to be removed.
The flags were first spotted Monday morning on the eastern and western towers of the temple. As the row erupted, Devaswom board members and authorities intervened, and the flags were removed.
Earlier too, the DYFI had tied flags at the temple after they found RSS flags were hoisted in the temple. The flags were removed after authorities held talks with both the parties.
The board members had also ordered that no party's flags should be hoisted in the temple premises.
The Left party had questioned then why the flags were hoisted again.
However, the RSS explained that the flags that were tied during the Sree Krishna Jayanti celebrations could not be removed due to bad weather conditions, probably referring to the heavy rainfall the state.
