Kochi: There is nothing political about Left supporters visiting actor Dileep in the Aluva subjail, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Tuesday.

Kodiyeri was reacting to questions on the jail visit by K.B. Ganesh Kumar, MLA, and KPAC Lalitha, who is the chairperson of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy.

Dileep has been lodged in the prison after being arrested for allegedly plotting the February 17 attack on a co-actress.

Ganesh is part of the CPM-led LDF while Lalitha, a known CPM supporter, was appointed to the academy after the LDF government assumed power.

"One cannot be blamed for visiting someone at a jail. Anyone can visit a prisoner. It's a personal choice," Kodiyeri said at a press meet here.

He said even people who were against the CPM had visited him and other party leaders when they had been jailed.

Lalitha's jail visit snowballed into a controversy as she was yet to meet the victim of the brutal attack. Both Lalitha and the victim hail from Thrissur.

Lalitha's decision to visit Dileep in jail has reportedly provoked women leaders of the CPM. Some cultural activists have also questioned Lalitha saying she should have restrained from showing the personal bond with Dileep as she was occupying a top government post.

Ganesh Kumar had also declared support to his co-actor saying he would stand by Dileep as the court has not found him guilty.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday postponed the bail plea hearing of Dileep to September 26.

The high court and the Angamaly Judicial Magistrate Court have rejected the actor's bail plea twice each.
