Thiruvananthapuram: Widespread rain has been predicted in Kerala until September 22, Friday. Weather monitors also see the possibility of heavy rain battering the state, post-25th. The warning was issued as the low pressure trough that formed along the state's coastline last week looks likely to reappear next week.
The existing low pressure trough has moved up from Kerala and Goa to Maharashtra, bringing heavy rain in Mumbai and other areas.
If the low pressure trough reappears next week as expected the result would be battering rain from September 25 onwards.
The showers that intensified from Sunday night is continuing in northern Kerala and hilly areas though there is some respite in southern Kerala.
Vythiri in Wayanad received the maximum rainfall on Tuesday at 10 centimeters. Hosdurg got seven cm, while Kudlu, Mananthavadi and Irikkur had six cm each.
Kozhikode and Vadakara received 5cm each on Tuesday.
At Thekke Mooleppadam in Kumarakom, 240 acres of paddy nearing harvest has been inundated after a bund crashed. Similar crashes occurred also at two places in Kuttanad.
Rain to continue, says varsity radar center
The Adanced Center for Atmospheric Research at Cochin University, Kalamassery, has predicted widespread rain in the coming two to three days.

Northern districts could receive up to 4 cm. Temperature in central Kerala will stay at a maximum of 30 degrees and a minimum of 24.
Dams fill up
There is good news from the KSEB reservoirs which have filled up above the mark attained during the same period last year. Idukki dam showed 2360.84 feet, up from the 2351.3 during the same period last year. The catchment area of the dam received 9.8 mm rain Monday filling up 55 percent of the dam capacity. This can generate 40.461 million units of electricity.

Holiday declared in affected villages
The district collector has announced that schools will remain closed Wednesday in flooded villages of Aymanam, Veloor, Thiruvarpu and Chengalam South in Kottayam district.

The deputy director of education declared a holiday for all schools in Pallipad, Cheruthana, Cheppad and Veeyapuram in Karthikappalli taluk and for Thekkekara Govt. L.P. School.
In Mannarcad taluk, the Palakkad district collector has declared all educational institutions shuttered for the day as rain persisted and relief operations were in full swing.
