Ration card has made Bhaskaran the oldest living person in Kerala

Mulleria: Who is the longest living person in Kerala? If the question is directed at civil supplies authorities, they will tell you it is Bhaskaran from Karaduka in Kasaragod.

As per the newly issued ration card, Bhaskaran is 116 years old. But he is only 62 years old. The wrong age got printed in the ration card due to errors while collecting details. Bhaskaran was an attendant at the veterinary hospital and retired some seven years ago.

His son Kiran's age too has been mentioned wrongly. Kiran is 31 but the ration card says he is a student aged 12.

This has come at a time when there are frequent complaints against mistakes in new ration cards. The ration card is printed by the Kerala government's Center for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) based on the information provided in the application forms by ration card owners.

The civil supplies officers were supposed to check the personal details entered in the computer and only then the ration cards were to be printed.

However, since the ration card printing started early, the officers were unable to check the details and this has resulted in errors creeping into the ration cards.

Now, the difficult part. If one needs to get the errors rectified, he or she will have to apply at the taluk supply office. What await them are long queues and delays.
