FB post on Pattoor issue contempt of court, HC tells Jacob Thomas

Kochi: The High Court has severely reprimanded DGP Jacob Thomas in the Pattoor issue, asking him on what grounds the case was registered “one fine morning.” The court also said that Jacob Thomas’s Facebook post on the case amounted to contempt of court.

The observations were made while considering a petition submitted by former chief secretary Bharat Bhushan and others.

Jacob Thomas had earlier received flak from the court a week ago after he failed to explain his version before the court despite a specific directive in this regard. On that occasion also the court had asked him to explain the circumstances of registering the case. Though Jacob Thomas was directed to file an affidavit in this regard, he is yet to do so.

Several posts by Jacob Thomas dealing with the Pattoor land issue had appeared on Facebook while the case was under the consideration of the court, which invited the HC’s censure.
