Thiruvananthapuram: Days after a transgender was brutally assaulted by a group of people at Valiyathura here, the police on Tuesday decided to register a case in connection with incident.
Chandana, a native of Navayikulam, was assaulted and stripped by a group of around 30 people recently. The mob attacked her alleging that she tried to abduct children. The assault was shot on mobile phones and circulated on social media. Chandana was rescued by the police who arrived on the spot. The police later clarified that the allegations against her were false.
The Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner on Tuesday ordered a probe into the incident after media reported that the police were not ready to file a case. The Valiyathura sub-inspector has been asked to probe the incident.
Earlier, the police had refused to book the accused citing that there was no complaint by the victim.
