Government jobs? Around 3,000 candidates say no thank you!

Malappuram: If you thought unemployment was a pressing problem in Kerala, you might find this piece of news hard to digest. Nearly 3,000 youngsters in the state has turned down job offers from the state government!

As many as 2,931 job seekers have not joined duty as lower-division clerks despite being selected by the Kerala Public Service Commission to the post. The official recruiter will strike off their names from the rank list as “not joining duty” to facilitate the selection of the others on the list.

Those who have not joined duty might have already found employment with some other government department or agency, officials suspect. They belong to a rank list that came into effect on March 31, 2015 and set to expire by the end of next month. The All Kerala LD Clerks Rankholders’ Association has urged the PSC to extend the validity of the rank list until December 31 since six months were practically lost due to supernumerary-related issues.

Most of the candidates who had not joined duty so far belong to Thiruvananthapuram district - 449. As many as 233 applicants in Kollam, 127 in Pathanamthitta, 187 in Alappuzha, 179 in Kottayam, 167 in Idukki, 222 in Ernakulam, 331 in Thrissur, 251 in Palakkad, 252 in Malappuram, 271 in Kozhikode, 70 in Wayanad, 121 in Kannur and 71 in Kasaragod have refused to join duty.
