New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear on priority a petition filed by DGP Jacob Thomas. Posting it for next Monday, the apex court said there was no circumstance to consider the petition on priority.
The court also asked whether the Kerala High Court would 'sent' Jacob Thomas to jail before Monday and without following the requisite procedure.
Jacob Thomas had approached the Supreme Court seeking to quash the contempt of court case against him. In his petition, he said that his allegations against judges were not fabricated and that he had mentioned facts in the complaint that he filed with the Central Vigilance Commission.
The Kerala High Court initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against him for alleged remarks against judges P Ubaid and Abraham Mathew.
On a petition filed by a lawyer, a division bench of Chief Justice Antony Dominic and Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu directed Thomas to appear before the court in person on April 2, Monday.
Jacob Thomas had filed a complaint with the Central Vigilance Commission and the Supreme Court chief justice stating that there was a conspiracy behind the continuous remarks against him by the HC and that this must be probed.
Jacob Thomas, who is under suspension because of his remarks against the government, is also facing department-level inquiry. The Kerala government had suspended Thomas, the senior-most IPS officer in the state cadre, from service in December last year for his 'anti-government' remarks.
He was placed under suspension when he was serving as the director of the Institute of Management in Government (IMG).
Earlier, Thomas was removed as the director of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.
