Palakkad: More and more allegations of high-handedness are being raised against the Kerala police from various parts of the state. In the latest such incident, a youth accused of throwing stones at a KSRTC bus was found hanging near his house in Palakkad on Tuesday morning.
Relatives and local people said that Santhosh, 27, of Pallatheri house, BPL Koottupatha, had been threatened with arrest by the police.
The police had charged four men for hurling stones at a KSRTC bus in Elappully. Three of them, except Santhosh, subsequently appeared before the police and gave statements. Relatives said that a police officer later reached Santhosh’s house and summoned him to the station, failing which he would be arrested. At that time, Santhosh had gone to work.
Later, when Santhosh came home, he learnt about the visit of the police officer. Afterwards, he was found hanging near his house. Local people gathered at the house demanding that the police officer who came to Santhosh’s house and threatened to arrest him should reach the spot.
Earlier in the day, three policemen were suspended in connection with the alleged death of a youth in police custody in Varapuzha in Kochi.
