Thiruvananthapuram/Neyyattinkara: The ashes of a Latvian woman, who was raped and murdered at Vazhamuttam, Kovalam, will be interred at her house in the Latvian capital Riga on Sunday.

The ashes will be entombed beside saplings in the courtyard.

Special prayers will be offered in this connection at the Sacred Heart Church at Nanthancode here at 3 pm.

The gathering will include those who had assisted in the search for the woman who had gone missing in March.

The woman's sister had immersed part of the ashes in the sea off Varkala before she returned to her home country.

Meanwhile, two young men accused of the rape and murder of the foreign tourist have been remanded for 14 days. Umesh, 28, and Udayan, 24, from Thiruvallam, have been shifted to the special subjail at Thozhukkal Chembarathivila.

They have been charged with murder, gang-rape and narcotics trafficking and abuse. The police had produced them before the Neyyattinkara First-Class Magistrate on May 4 and sought their custody for further investigation and gathering of crucial evidence. The court agreed, but ordered that they should be produced again at 5 pm on Friday.

The accused were brought to court under heavy guard as their relatives had made a bid to block the police in the court premises earlier.
