Patna: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel Tuesday successfully evacuated six pregnant women to nearest hospitals in flood-hit areas of Bihar. The expecting mothers were safely evacuated from flood-hit Muzaffarpur, Purnea and Katihar districts in Bihar, a NDRF statement said.
Commandant of the NDRF 9 Bn. (Battalion), based in Bihta in Patna district said that the force boats are prepared for medical emergencies and have a nursing staff as well a Medical First Respondent on board.
During flood relief and rescue operation last year in Bihar, the NDRF personnel had helped four women deliver healthy babies on the boat.
A total of 23 NDRF teams are active rendering services to marooned people in different parts of Bihar.
Three teams each have been deployed in Motihari, Bettiah, Purnea and Sitamarhi, two teams in Kishanganj and Katihar while one team each has been deployed in Supual, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, Araria, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur and Patna districts, the statement said.
Over 28,000 rescued
The force, out in full strength in different parts of the country, facing the spate of monsoon, have by now saved over 28,000 people. Multiple teams have been deployed in Assam, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to undertake rescue and relief operations.
The trained NDRF personnel also saved lives of three persons, two in Bettiah and one in Purnea, from drowning in flood waters.
It said 7,296 people in Bihar, 5,184 in Assam, 2,510 in Uttar Pradesh and 2,484 in West Bengal have been evacuated to safer locations.
