India launched its 100th satellite along with 30 others in a single mission, a milestone event in the country's space history. This is ISRO's first Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) mission after the unsuccessful launch of the navigation satellite IRNSS-1H last year.
When?
The PSLV-C40/Cartosat-2 Series satellite mission launched from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, on January 12, 2018 at 09:28 am.
Primary satellite
Cartosat-2 series satellite is the primary satellite carried by PSLV-C40. It weighs 710 kg and is used for earth observation. This remote sensing satellite is similar in configuration to earlier satellites in the series and is intended to augment data services to the users.
It carries panchromatic and multi-spectral cameras operating in Time Delay Integration mode and is capable of delivering high resolution data. This will be the third satellite in the Cartosat-2 series.
Co-passengers
The co-passenger satellites comprise one microsatellite and one nanosatellite from India as well as 3 microsatellites and 25 nanosatellites from six countries, namely, Canada, Finland, France, Republic of Korea, UK and USA.
Total payload
The total weight of all the 31 satellites carried on board PSLV-C40 is about 1323 kg.
