The International Cricket Council's new rules were broken 24 hours of its introduction globally. Queensland Bulls' Marnus Labuschagne became the first cricketer to breach the new regulations of 'fake fielding' during the domestic limited overs match against Cricket Australia XI on Friday.
Labuschagne dived and tried to stop a ball hit by Param Uppal, but missed it completely. He then tried to confuse the batsman by faking a throw.
Queensland Bulls were penalized 5 runs for Labuschagne's action.
According to the MCC's new Law 41.5: "It is unfair for any fielder willfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball."
The umpires have the discretion to award five penalty runs if they determine that such deception is willful.
Under new rules effective from Thursday, cricketers can be sent off -- like in football -- if they commit major offenses.
