Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been in the centre of a controversy, has denied allegations of match-fixing claims by his wife Hasin Jahan who has also accused him of domestic violence. According to a report in leading national website, the Uttar Pardesh cricketer, who plays for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, said he would rather die than compromise on his performance while playing for the country.
Jahan had posted screenshots on her Facebook account of Shami's alleged WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger conversations with multiple women. Hasin even alleged that Shami and his family members had tried to kill her.
"As far as the allegation of compromising my performance playing for the country is concerned, I would rather die than do something like this," Shami told reporters.
"Hasin and her family have been saying that we will sit and talk out all issues, but I don't know who has been misleading her," Shami said.
Shami was on Wednesday left out of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's 26-member annual contracts system.
However, the fast bowler will be back in the list if his innocence is proved.
Hasin on Thursday lodged a written complaint with the police against the cricketer, alleging domestic violence and infidelity.
Hasin submitted a written complaint to Kolkata Police Joint CP (Crime) Praveen Tripathi. Tripathi said that it would be treated as an FIR.
"We have received a complaint from the cricketer's wife where she has alleged physical and mental torture by him. We are yet to decide on which sections a case can be started," he told reporters.
After meeting Tripathi, Hasin said she has described her ordeal to him and the officer promised proper action in the case.
"I have met the officer and told him everything about how I have been tortured by Shami. I have also told him about his multiple sexual partners despite being married to me," Hasin said.
Shami in posts on his Facebook page and Twitter handle had claimed that the news was false and a conspiracy to defame him.
